These tests can be used to diagnose kidney injury and monitor disease progression.
Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate
Normal Lab Value: 90-120 ml/minute.
A value of 90 ml/minute or less indicates kidney damage may be present.

A level of 60 ml/minute indicates kidney disease.
Kidneys can filter up to 150 quarts of blood each day in the body of the average adult.
Other influences can affect the BUN, including diet, dehydration, and age.
Burn injuries and steroid use also can affect BUN results.
Creatinine Test
Normal Lab Values: Men: .7-1.3, Women: .6-1.1 mg/dl.
The ratio of BUN to creatinine should be between 10:1 and 20:1.
This test is a blood test that looks at how muchcreatinineis in the bloodstream.
The creatinine level is used to estimate the EGFR.
High levels can suggest kidney disease, as well as an increased risk of heart disease.
Higher may be a sign of kidney disease.
Albumin in your urine can suggest kidney disease even if you have EGFR results are normal.
A small sample is taken and evaluated in the lab.
Alternatively, you may have new symptoms that need to be investigated.
For example, an acute episode can be brought on by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use.
In some cases, an atypical finding may be temporary due to medications or dehydration.
With kidney disease, the test values are important for guiding your diagnosis and treatment.
