Is 20/20 Vision Perfect Eyesight?
A 20/20 vision reading is not considered “perfect” vision but rather average vision.
It is used as a baseline from which to measure changes in eyesight.

Although having 20/20 vision is beneficial, it does not mean your vision is excellent in every aspect.
It only measures your vision sharpness at a distance.
It’s possible to have 20/20 vision but still have problems seeing things at other distances.
How Does 20/20 Vision Compare to Other Vision Ratings?
It may be helpful to compare 20/20 vision to other vision ratings to better understand what it means.
The results of a visual acuity test are written as a fraction.
The top number represents the standard distance from which the test is done (20 feet).
The bottom number reflects the smallest letter size you’re free to read.
Can You Improve Your Vision to Become 20/20?
Many studies on eye exercises focus on controlling or preventing myopia.
Between ages 40 and 60, experts recommend an eye exam every couple of years.
Starting at age 60, plan for an annual eye exam.
It is not considered “perfect” vision.
Instead, it’s average eyesight.
This is one aspect of vision and eye health.
Many people can improve their vision to 20/20 with eyeglasses, contact lenses, or eye surgery.
