The PERRLA eye exam is used to examine the health of your pupils.

The only tool needed is a pen-shaped flashlight (penlight).

The constriction or dilation may be excessive, insufficient, or completely absent.

One or both pupils may also be abnormally shaped or positioned.

Additional tests can then be ordered to confirm the suspicions.

The PERRLA exam may also be of limited value to people whose eyes have been medically dilated.
