Symptoms
One-sided body numbness may be subtle or severe.
It may affect one part of the body or the entire body from head to toe.
The opposite is true with the brain.
If the brain is affected, numbness may be felt throughout the entire left or right side.
Many medical conditions can cause numbness on one side of your body.
This causes tissue damage and death to the part of the brain serviced by the blood vessel.
Symptoms of stroke tend to occur suddenly, affecting either one side of the body or the other.
Even so, having a TIA places you at an increased risk of having a stroke in later life.
Radiculopathy
Radiculopathyrefers to a compressed (pinched) spinal nerve root.
Even so, PN can sometimes start unilaterally (on one side of the body) before becoming bilateral.
Systemic illnesses can also causepolyneuropathywherein multiple peripheral nerves are damaged, causing symptoms in multiple parts of the body.
A physical examination, medical history, andneurological examinationwill be performed.
Call 911 or get transported to an emergency room.
This is especially true if the numbness is accompanied by any of the other symptoms detailed previously.
Most commonly, the potential causes include nerve damage, multiple sclerosis, or a stroke.
Many other symptoms, including weakness, dizziness, and difficulty speaking, could also accompany your sensory deficits.
Individuals experiencing this pop in of numbness should be seen urgently by a healthcare provider.
A physical examination and imaging tests may be performed to diagnose the condition.
Treatment depends on the cause.
