Depending on the location and size of the impaled object, emergency medical response may be necessary.
Small impaled objectssplinters, for examplecan be removed without going to the emergency department.
Larger impaled objects will require a physician or other healthcare provider to remove them properly.

Because of their complicated nature, even seemingly minor impaled objects require emergency medical response.
However, as with every rule, there are exceptions.
Remember not to put any pressure on the impaled object.
Covering both eyes keeps the injured eye from moving and causing more damage.
Call an Ambulance
People with serious impalement injuries need urgent medical attention.
If you are busy helping the patient, designate a specific person to call 911.
If you could do so safely, secure the object to prevent it from moving.
This involves using bulky dressings, towels, or blankets to support the sides of the impaled object.
Keep the impaled object still, as moving it will cause more damage.
