Use these rules of thumb.
The basket of fried tortilla chips and salsa is probably best avoided.
But you should be able to find choices that are more heartburn-friendly and request mild spices.
You will need to learn to ask about preparation and sauces that are less likely to trigger heartburn.
Avoid eating at least 2-3 hours before lying down or going to bed.
This happens when the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) is weak or relaxes when it shouldn’t.
Heartburn, or acid reflux, can happen to anyone.
When reflux is frequent and severe, it is known as GERD.
